Jacksonville High School FOCUS Program Supports the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society
“Pennies for Patients”
Jacksonville High School FOCUS Program
February, 2009

FOCUS program students at Jacksonville High School proudly participated in The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society’s “Pennies for Patients” campaign. This is one of the national “School and Youth Programs” that raises money to find cures for leukemia, lymphoma, and myeloma while providing information and support services to patients and their families. “Pennies for Patients” teaches students caring, sharing, and respect for others and the value of community service, in addition to supporting an important cause. The need for cures is critical: over 823,000 Americans are battling blood cancers, and leukemia remains the leading cause of disease-related death among children under 20. During the 2007-2008 school year, 21,000 schools across the country raised $19 million through School and Youth Programs. Alabama/Gulf Coast’s School and Youth program raised over $132,000.

The “Pennies for Patients” program at Jacksonville ran from January 20 through February 6. We exceeded our school wide goal of $1000 and raised a total of $1357.23.
